Qualified graduate students are employed as Graduate Teaching Associates to teach remedial mathematics courses (MATH 59, 60, 70) or to serve as teaching assistants for calculus classes (MATH 226, 227, and 228). Experienced GTA's may be hired to teach Pre-Calculus (MATH 109). GTA assignments are made by the Chair of Mathematics.

The Department of Mathematics hires students in several capacities: student assistants, graders, tutors, and graduate teaching associates. All student employees must be enrolled at least half time (eight units for undergraduates and four units for graduate students). Students on academic probation are not qualified for student employment. Student employees are not to exceed 20 hours per week of combined work for the university.

All student employees of the mathematics department, regardless of who makes the hiring decision, are hired through the mathematics office. Hourly employees are not allowed to work unless the proper paperwork is in place, without which it is not possible to be paid. It is the student's responsibility to meet deadlines turning in time sheets.
