The graduate application process for SFSU Mathematics Department consists of two parallel steps:

Step 1: Apply for general admission to the SFSU graduate program. The prospective student submits an application to the Graduate School online at CSU Mentor. For domestic applications click here, for international applications click here.

Online applications are uploaded to SFSU Student Systems in 24 hours. Submit one set of official transcripts from all post-secondary (post-high school) programs attended. Send one set to the University:

Send the second set to the Mathematics Department. Unofficial transcripts may be submitted to the department, official transcripts, however, must be on file with the Office of Graduate Admission.

Step 2: Apply for admission to the SFSU Mathematics Department graduate program. The prospective student should have General GRE scores sent to:

GRE scores must be taken no earlier than three years prior to the date of application. Applicants wishing to be considered for scholarships or teaching positions should have at least two letters of recommendation sent to the Mathematics Department.

The Graduate Division will check the application and transcripts to ensure that the applicant has satisfied the minimum university requirements for admission to the graduate program. Assuming those requirements have been met, the Mathematics Department will evaluate the applicant's mathematical preparation for successful participation in the Mathematics Master of Arts Program.

Application Deadlines: All materials have to be received by

  • March 1 for consideration in the following Fall semester
  • October 1 for consideration in the following Spring semester.
