(CM)²: Creating Momentum through Communicating Mathematics

Brian Cruz

(CM)² Graduate Student (2012-2013)

My family's from the Philippines, I was born and raised in Memphis, and now I live in San Francisco. I have many interests. I like music, dancing, photography, traveling, film making, politics, and of course math! My research involves using stochastic models (e.g., kinetic Monte Carlo algorithms) to simulate viral DNA packaging motors to study how they might affect DNA knotting in bacteriophages. I've recently been inspired by the actions of people worldwide who have had enough: we've witnessed revolution in Egypt, mass strikes in Greece, a los Indignados de Espana, the Occupy movement from NYC to LA, and more. Hopefully we will be able to stop the austerity measures here and save public education!
