Bay Area Discrete Math Day

The Ninth Bay Area Discrete Math Day will be held on the University of California, Berkeley campus on October 30, 2004 .

Further details will be posted here as they become available. Or you may contact the local organizer Alexander Yong.

Bay Area Discrete Math Days are one-day meetings aimed at facilitating communication between researchers and graduate students of discrete mathematics around the San Francisco Bay Area. These days happen semi-annually and strive to create a fairly informal atmosphere to talk about discrete mathematics. The term "discrete mathematics" is chosen to include at least the following topics: Algebraic and Enumerative Combinatorics, Discrete Geometry, Graph Theory, Coding and Design Theory, Combinatorial Aspects of Computational Algebra and Geometry, Combinatorial Optimization, Probabilistic Combinatorics, and Combinatorics in Mathematical Physics.

There will not be any registration fee, but ALL potential participants are kindly requested to send email if you plan to attend. Please indicate dietary restrictions and whether you will join us for dinner. Information on the area hotels is available upon request. If you have any questions, please contact the local organizer Alexander Yong.

Directions and other notes: The meeting room will be in 60 Evans Hall. The doors to the building are locked during the weekends, but we will arrange to have some of the doors opened, with directions to those doors from the other entances. Directions to campus and parking suggestions may be found here .

Best to park on the street on the North side of campus on October 30. It's free and if you come early, you should find parking. Also, it's closer than parking in the city's parking lots. You most likely can not park in the University's lots because there is a football game at 12:30 PM on October 30 and ALL the University lots are reserved for the Athletic Department who is charging $20 to park. The city parking lots may charge as much. See the following maps/pictures.

For dinner, some free parking is available behind the restaurant (10 spots). Please note that October 30th is a football day at Berkeley, and parking prices rise to as much as $20 at game time, so early arrival is advised. There will likely be NO PARKING ON CAMPUS. However, since the game will not begin until 7:00PM, it should be possible to find parking on the side streets outside campus, but near Evans Hall. See the aforementioned map.
